I have been eating at 1200 calories a day and feel filled up. I have also increased my water intake, but I have been craving red meat. Most of my protein is chicken or tuna. How can you effectively incorporate red meat into a 1200 calorie diet?

dawn, i would first ask you why 1200 cals? that is awfully low and have personally NEVER been able to last long below 1400. and with your running, you might consider upping your cals as your body will soon wonder what’s going on and begin to hold onto any excess weight…. just my two cents of course, you know what’s best and how you feel more than i do!

about the meat…. stick to LEAN red meats if you want to have any at all, and only once or twice per week. sirloin is great and 93% lean ground beef. also stick to grass fed, organic if possible. the US meat supply is NOT quality in my opinion… watch the movie Food Inc and you will see what I mean. http://www.foodincmovie.com/

buffalo is another very lean and healthy option. i know i have seen it at kroger. most meat products these days have a label. so read the label and watch for the saturated fat and cholesterol content. good luck!

As for the 1200 calories, with being at home and running a daycare I am always finding myself in the kitchen, I needed a number to restrict myself with. Just trying to find the right amount to start a weight loss regimen that I can stick to. I’m incorporating more fruit and veggies too. I don’t want to diet persay, but change my eating habits to a lasting lifestyle change to be more healthy. I have about 65-75 lbs to lose to hit my ultimate goal. If I’m hitting too low on calories, that’s probably why I’m falling asleep so early now and struggling to wake up at my normal time.

that would make sense! sounds like you have a great attitude about it, it’s all about healthy LIFESTYLE and not a diet. those of us who diet know this well… diets END. lifestyles DO NOT.

i would recommend upping your cals to 1400-1800 or so (kind of depends on your weight, but doing a quick search for recommended intake at various websites will give you some guidelines) and see how that goes for 2 weeks. 2 weeks is long enough to see a change, positive or not. make them quality calories… whole foods, veggies, fruits, like you have been doing. if you are running out of energy, i would say that’s a pretty good indication that you aren’t taking in enough cals.

good luck! you are going to do GREAT. 🙂
